Great article but the real reason Hilton didn’t sweep the seat are non voters and worse, those well-meaning but ignorant conservatives who split the vote in the primaries. Had all of us with common sense banded together behind Hilton, he would’ve taken the seat easily.
It’s pretty easy to complain about California, but the issue for Republicans now is not just the 2026 election but who can Republicans nominate in 2028 who will get the support of two voting demographics…the under 29 voters and Hispanics. 60% those groups voted blue on Tuesday and turned the political tide.
Can you imagine if blue Texas votes for a democrat presidential candidate in 2028?
Correct JM and thanks for illustrating that massive immigration...legal and illegal...from any one ethnic/race is not only unhealthy...it is destructive to a nation that claims "diversity is our strength" yet vote largely as an ethnic bloc for any candidate with whom they ethnically identify??? Demographically, the percent of Hispanics in CA went from 13% to 42% in the past 50 years.
Imagine if only the proposed policies...and records...of candidates such as Becerra vs. Hilton or Carbajal vs. Smith...NOT their names or party affiliation...were only represented as bullet points on a ballot! Vote for the policy, not the personality/identity. Would the voters support more regulation, higher taxes, gas prices, etc., ad nauseam ??? Or permit the ever sleazy CA State Attorney General to completely rewrite and deceive the actual intent of a statewide ballot initiative description to appear to be the exact opposite of its intent...Rob Bona??? Of course not! Even in the TEN different languages California provides to its "diverse" population.
Alexander Hamilton got it right almost 250 years ago: "The masses are asses". Or back a little further...say 2000 years..."Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do".
What’s wrong with CA? It’s one big mess! It cannot run lawful elections or count ballots: 38% of returned ballots (61,000+) have not yet even been processed in Santa Barbara County. Trust in the process has been destroyed.
In 2021, during COVID Lockdown chaos, precinct voting was replaced statewide with mailed ballots to be processed centrally by each County rather than at the precinct level. Our County staff is overwhelmed, can’t keep up, there’s no checks to confirm the number of ballots does not exceed the number of registered voters, voter rolls are dirty, and non-citizens vote. Locally, the very low turnout by those under age 45 is cause for alarm and understood.
To those texting me they received multiple ballots in the mail, contacted County Elections and received a casual ‘so what’ response: Lucky You. You’re not alone. To those in other states who moved out of CA 10 plus years ago receiving an official Sec of State letter that your CA ballots have been forwarded to you: why not vote in 2 state elections? Dual foreign citizens vote in two countries so why not you?
Republicans had the power for two years and failed CA and every citizen by not using it to enforce compliance with the US Constitution. Much is wrong with CA in need of fixing that as a native born and raised I predict will only get worse.
Good points. It amazes me to watch the Hispanics / Mexicans pump up their "culture" and seem to ignore the graft and corruption that has been the down stream outcome of Hispanic Empire rule.
The lowest crime rate in a 100 years that directly benefits the Hispanic sub group and they don't get it. Want to bet the minute they get their wish and cancel ICE and open the borders they will be the first to complain?
After the the 2026 election, here's my prediction for what is coming in 2028, especially concerning the "wealth tax."
1. The 2026 CA measure will probably not pass. Democrats were split on the deeply flawed bill, because it opened the door for taxing people's pensions, IRA's, savings accounts, etc. Credit the sheer stupidity of the Democrats for drafting and pushing this prop -- "a bridge too far."
2. Even if this wealth tax passes this year, the courts may well rule it's invalid, given that it's clearly a RETROACTIVE tax.
3. The CA labor unions have ALREADY announced that they will put the wealth tax back on the November 2028 CA ballot. This time they will draft the measure correctly -- soaking just the rich (perhaps the top 1%) -- and not making it retroactive.
4. Any super-rich CA RESIDENT who does not relocate their official tax home outside of CA before the end of 2027 DESERVES to get their assets confiscated. After all, most of our CA super rich LOVE to "virtue signal" for the left. Karma.
5. To state the obvious, by moving their homes (and likely their business) to a low/no income tax state, the rich will also save millions by not paying the onerous annual CA state income tax. For the rich, that's 14.4% for earned income -- 13.3% on investment income and long term capital gains.
Fleeing CA is a win-win!
6. The wealthy can (for now) retain a VACATION home in CA while meeting the legal requirements to have their tax residence in a tax-friendly state. Their accountants will take care of the details.
My current favorite state is Tennessee.
7. Does ANYONE believe that such a wealth tax will be a one-time levy?
8. There will be no national wealth push in 2027-28 -- Trump will successfully veto any such bill. It takes a 2/3 vote by both the House and Senate to overturn a Presidential veto.
9. In the U.S., like Europe, it's easy for residents to move to another city or neighboring country. Hence such failed wealth tax laws were rather quickly repealed in Europe.
10. But unlike Europeans, U.S. people seldom move to other COUNTRIES. Hence a push for a NATIONAL U.S. wealth tax is likely in our future -- assuming the 2028 President is a Democrat.
11. Even if such a national U.S. wealth tax comes to pass, that does NOT preclude states from unwisely deciding to impose a similar state wealth tax (just like the state income tax). For too many on the left, harmful net results are not as important as demonstrating their hatred of the rich.
Let’s see here: The Democrat Party has the bureaucracy, the teachers union, the healthcare industry, the entertainment industry, anyone on the dole, and recent and really really recent immigrants if you catch my drift as built in dedicated constituencies. Plus there is a favorable judiciary for pesky court challenges and local and national media for psyop coverage.
Finally, take a good look at LA Mayoral Primary election tallies in time series from election night through declaration of final results.
And then pretend substance matters. Good luck Republicans. Change my mind (hat tip Steven Crowder).
There are literally NO undocumented and dead people voting, deceased people can't vote, genius. Unless we count all of the brain dead ones who believe that undocumented and dead people are voting.
How about if we start coming up with solutions? In every election cycle the outcome is winning and losing. Regardless of the outcome, there is finger pointing and vitriol as opposed to collaboration and improvement. We used to work together regardless of our political differences, especially at the local level. The best form of government is at the local level and that is where we can affect change.
Government employee unions own us, and even make us pay them to do what they do to us. This new balance of power has absolutely nothing to do with the founding principles of our country. Of the people, by the people and for the people.
After 1962, public employee unions inserted themselves as a rigidly empowered gate keeper between we the people and our own government. By 2026, it is now a shark infested deep moat no one can traverse.
We now exist in two parallel universes: the massive grip of public employee unions, who are at total odds with our founding constitutional principles and the rest of us. There are NO checks and balances between we the people and this now entrenched unelected fourth branch of our government that we are forced by law to fund.
The fact one central command and control operation - SEIU - represents virtually all county election office employees in our entire nation, including our own in Santa Barbara County, should send chills down all our spines. Time to start talking about this.
The fact NEA and AFT control virtually all of our failing public education system is reason enough for radical change in this politically corrupt status quo. Combine NEA, AFT, SEIU and any number of other alphabet soup government employee unions, all grinning up front in campaign ad before elections with their chosen candidates, and you cannot escape the fact we have lost this country .
In 1962 we allowed government employee unions by fiat against all reasoned advice including FDR who strongly opposed them. By fiat, we must eliminate them. Why do we need armies of county election employees, all SEIU members, counting our votes?
You are sooo right on!!!!!

💯
Not buying the voter fraud story.
Liberal judges plus 9th Circuit would block any federally originated CA election reforms.
Well, you've left out Beccerra, Bass, Bonta, Padilla, Waters...and quite a few others.
Still stuck in a state of shock post election...gonna be an ugly two year period Nationally.
And the Democratic hits just keep on comin’

It would be easier to ask what’s right with California. Much shorter list…so sad.

How about voter ID ? That could be a huge factor when you have undocumented immigrants and dead people voting.
There are literally NO undocumented and dead people voting, deceased people can't vote, genius. Unless we count all of the brain dead ones who believe that undocumented and dead people are voting.

No, he rather blame a political party that pulled the state to the 5th largest economy in the world. lmao
Bonhoeffer stupidity. Read it.

I’ll take $3 gas! Actually, if you adjust for inflation, $3 gas would be a little bit cheaper than gas in 1974 at 53 cents a gallon. (I’m old 🙂)
