As a former LIFELONG resident, I am taking home a state voter pamphlet to drop resoundingly on the tables of all those who ask me how I could "ever" leave Santa Barbara. Indeed. It's better to visit these days, enjoy the beauty that remains despite attempts to crush it under overcrowding, insane costs and regulations. You can't kill my memories but you sure can drive me to pay my taxes elsewhere. God bless those who stay and valiantly fight to Make California Great Again. Meanwhile, thanks for the memories...

You state hey it is time for application of laws protecting us "folk" and some slicked back hair jell politician or attorney type says -- Oh no you have just taken rights of illegals and criminals.

We don't need no stinking laws to protect us unless it is our side of the DSA or Communist manifesto. They tax you to death and say it is for your own good! (huh) They refuse to apply health and safety codes and let any and everyone jam housing density per room (not per house / not per apartment) that degrades the property and at the least is in-sanitary.
Both Cuba and Nicaragua have stated the Communist dictators have the only right to make rules and regulations and any protest against them is punishable.

It is intentional deceptive taking. They are taking your individual rights. The taking of a rational separation of government power to protect you. RHNA has no constitutional basis when passed by the radical Gov. Brown with a packed legislature. There are no guard rails against the consolidation of power to a dictatorship with these types. Impersonation of freedom of the likes of Stalin, Mao, Putin, Xi, IRGC, and more is a intentional and distinct danger.
How will you vote? Have you had enough of consolidation of power and massive taxation? Have you had enough of skyrocketing inflation of Calif.?

Yes on Prop 43. Moreover be aware that proposals to LOWER the voter tax increase threshold are most often led by Santa Barbara Democrats. Remember 2000, voter approved Prop 39 authored by then State Senator Jack O’Connell, which lowered required voter approval for K-14 public school bonds from two-thirds to 55%. Now guess how Jack O’Connell makes money? Answer: Advising schools to float schools bonds!
Santa Barbara Democrats then and now have a disproportionate influence harming and destroying California via increased taxation and costly regulations. Take it or leave it; or move.
We all need to not only read each new bill but also do our homework on exactly what it means and how it will impact us for years down the road.
Prop 13,has been tried to overturn for years. Our taxes are already over the top and we absolutely do not need more property tax. It’s already almost impossible for most people, especially the young ones to buy a house. Then after they own it the property tax eats you alive.
Read each bill and then get an interpretation of it from knowable people.
No busy parent or worker or student can or will read 175 pages in the Sample ballot. Send out your one page recommendations to everyone in your various networks!
As an aside I typically help 20-30 locals fill out their ballots after they call overwhelmed asking me: “you know what I think, will you help me vote?” Yes too often means no; and most of us can never anticipate consequences decades later. Ballot language is complex intimidating voters.
Under 1976 Prop 13, one homeowner pays $800/annually, homeowner two $20,000/year or more, while renters pay $0 towards municipal services or public schools or for bonds. Public housing is tax exempt and prioritized locally. That’s one plausible reason why 69% of Santa Barbara renter-residents are unconcerned that Council Reps are fiscal illiterates who recklessly spend and gift away the taxes paid by high paying property owners. Moreover, most publicly housed in tax-exempt properties (estimated at 1 in 7) vote Democrat to protect their gifted benefit.
