This is a really well-written article. It needs wider distribution to include the mass of California voters beyond the population of California Current readers to alert them to the dangers of Proposition 4.
I, among much more productive others, tried to persuade voters to vote "No" on Proposition 13, to reject the forever-funding of UCSB, which is no longer the institution of most voters' memories. We failed. We could not compete with the massive funding behind Proposition 13 and the nostalgia some people had in their experiences with UCSB of old.
Proposition 4 will not have the mass nostalgia influence, but it will be heavily financially supported.
What would it take to get a much wider audience? How can it be made into food for the National Press? There are many juicy headlines one can imagine gaining wider knowledge and influence in California and beyond, on this appalling attempt to make taxpayers pay for political campaign costs.
Make no mistake, if Proposition 4 is approved, it will become permanent. And it will tax the middle class. It is not just another tax on Billionaires, California is running out of them.

VOTE YES ON PROP 4 ! Maybe when the average _stupid_ Dem voter get hit in the pocketbook, sees his least favorite politicians elected, sees California flushing down the toilet even faster than before, they won't be so enamored with the coalition pushing this thing - Common Cause, League of Women Voters, ACLU. The usual suspects who treat government expansion like a moral duty.

If it were a well-written article, it would mention that this is already in place in 5 other cities. It would mention that this has been going on since the 1990s, and that the very last city to implement it did so 10 years ago.
The alternative the author omits is that he is OK with the donor class donating unlimited funds to a candidate. That is not democracy at play. That is, he who has the gold makes the rules.
Stop falling for the doom and gloom crowd. Take the time to read what they say, be skeptical, then read the source material. Their article is not the source; that is opinion.
Sounds like we taxpayers would become a de facto union for political campaigns--our 'dues' financing them. What could we call this new Union? How about the 'California Soviet Election Collective'? We could all bask in its 'warm embrace.'
Thank you for showing me exactly what prop 4 is. A question i do have and kind of fits this topic, me and many homeowners are paying Mello roos for our hones. I know this amount is shown on our property tax statements. When I look up what Mello roos is, it sounds like what this topic talks about. Our Mello roos does help the community, police, schools etc... Could our tax payer dollars being used for this matter as well? I know that some Mello roos does have an expiration date, but when I call santa clarita city hall, they say it all depends on the bonds that were bought and how long they last. Huh?? What does that even mean? It just sounds like a scam to me. Yes I put myself in that position because we really wanted the home and didnt mind, but after reading this article, it sounds the same. Any help would be appreciated.
What would you expect. It’s getting more expensive for the unions to financially back their puppets to get them in the government system. So instead of using union dues they want the taxpayers to fund their puppets. Of course they will write rules after it’s passed.

A good idea would be to remind everyone just before election time around Halloween to vote no on prop 4.
